Well here we are folks nearly at the end of the year, the end of a decade! Can we just take a moment for that to sink in …
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are ready for this year to come to a close. I thought I would take this time to reflect on the year gone and mentally prepare myself for 2020 starting next week. So here is what I have learnt and what I have loved in 2019.
LEARNT
For me this year has been about learning to adapt and move with the flow. I had a plan at the start of the year for my brand, my business and my life, these big ideas I was excited about. Some of these have come into being whereas others haven’t but in their place something else has taken their place. And this is when I have learnt to adapt and be comfortable in doing so. It definitely hasn’t been easy I mean I am the biggest control freak and when I don’t have a plan it scares me a little. But life doesn’t always go to plan and that’s totally ok. Especially when its for the better in the long run.
One goal that I did achieve and I am really proud of is the release of my Body Beautiful E-Book in May. I designed and created it all myself so learnt a lot about Canva during that time and also the art of patience. It isn’t always easy to take your time when you want it to be out in the world but slower was better when creating this. A 6 week guide to help women kick start their fitness routine and work on becoming more body confident within themselves. I wanted to create something relate able and simple to do, without the quick fix promise and it could be repeated as and when needed. It’s a fitness guide with a difference because I hope to make a difference when it comes to how women perceive themselves and fitness. I loved the process, I love that I actually did it and I love how it all turned out.
I have learnt that I am capable of whatever I set my mind too, that I am good at what I do and I should own this more. Being modest is all well and good but if we are good at something or have achieved something we are proud of this should be shouted from the rooftops not hidden away.
As well there has been a lot of personal development this year, learning to stop worrying what other people think and start focusing on what I think and want. Putting myself first is something I started to do more of in 2019 and want to continue to do so in 2020.
I have learnt I really need to take care of myself, I need to slow down and allow myself rest because I don’t do it enough. Burning the candle at both ends is not healthy and being constantly busy for the sake of it is also not beneficial for anyone.
And following on from this I have learnt when it is ok to ask for help and actually be alright with accepting it. I have an incredible support network who are there when needed and this year I learnt to do just that, get the support.
Planning a wedding is a lot of work and a tiny bit stressful, I honestly hold my hands up to wedding planners and now also know why people get wedding planners! I have absolutely loved planning it don’t get me wrong but I feel every spare moment when not working or seeing someone I have been doing something wedding related. Only a month and a bit to go though and it will all be over which is just mental to think about.
Finally ,as much as it pains me to say because I really thought we would be over this stuff now , diet culture and general fitness BS is still alive and kicking. Brace yourself for all the New Year, New You stuff and detoxes galore … just don’t buy into any of it.
LOVED
This year I rediscovered my love for teaching fitness classes, honestly there is something about helping a room full of people get fit and have fun doing it that I just love. The energy people bring is infectious and I can’t help but smile every time I teach. At the start of the year I began teaching classes at V1BE then in mid September BLOK came along and I began teaching there. I’ve gone from teaching 3 at the start of the year to now teaching 10 alongside my PT clients. Looking forward to continuing this into 2020 and hopefully I can get some more along the way. I am so grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to see where this takes me. You can catch me at V1BE on Mondays and BLOK on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
My job once again has brought me many moments of joy. Being self employed and a PT at that can be hard, with the unsociable hours, long days and never switching off. But it just takes 1 client, 1 moment of improvement, 1 noticeable change physically or mentally to make it all worth while. My PT hours have reduced from where they were at the beginning of the year due to increased classes but my ladies have never stopped working. I can’t wait to see what 2020 brings for them all.
One of my goals for 2019 was to spend less time on social media and more time in real life. And whilst there have been the odd moments of getting lost down the Instagram rabbit hole I have to say this is goal I have achieved and loved doing so. It made me realise we can focus too much of our energy on what we want people to see rather than juts living our lives. I have made memories and had experiences that I haven’t felt the need to share. I have been present in the moment and it’s been fabulous so much much more of this in 2020 please.
I became an Aunty this year in August to little baby Jake and oh my goodness I didn’t think I could love a little human this much but I do. He is an absolute bundle of joy and I can’t wait for all of the cuddles over the holidays.
Finally I have loved seeing my friends progress so much over the year. It makes me happy when they are doing well, proud of you all!
NOW WHAT?
2020 is going to be a year that’s for sure. It is the year I get married for a start !! I’m not going to share my goals on here as I still need to think about them BUT I am expecting lots of positive things. I want this next decade to be one of growth and fulfilment both in my personal and professional career.
2019 it’s been a blast but it’s time for a new year to start and new memories to make.
